Spending on fitness nowadays is not less than any investment. Today investing in exercise would yield you unmeasurable returns which would benefit not only your physical appearance but would also affect your mental health in a positive way. As per a comprehensive survey conducted by Expert Market Research across top tier 1 and 2 cities, which included 45000 respondents, the insights delve deeply into how much individuals spend on their fitness regime.
Portion of Income Spent on Fitness Per Month
The survey indicated that most of the respondents i.e. 43.28% spend between 1000-1999 Rs. while 31.34% of the respondents remain in the bracket of 1-999 Rs. Only a few of the respondents spend above 2000 Rs. which account for 16.42% of the total sample size. This study aims to analyze the average spending of respondents on fitness related activities and in which bracket most of the individuals fall in. It’s evident that on average people spend between 0-1999Rs.per month, which forms approximately 74% of the population on their fitness routine which surpasses others who can afford to spend above 2000 Rs. to keep themselves fit.
As the average spending is between 0-1999 Rs., implies that people are more inclined towards fitness but also prioritizes affordability to be as one of the crucial factors. Thus, keeping this in mind, government of India launched various initiatives to make exercise accessible as well as affordable to all. To leverage the same, Sports Authority of India (SAI) launched a scheme named “National Sports Development fund” (NSDF) to support the development of sports infrastructure. Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) indirectly provides financial planning towards health and fitness needs. Availability of open gyms by the government is another recent development which has titled fitness as a zero-cost activity.
How Much do Indians Spend on Exercise
Strong matches that have been derived from our study are that respondents who opted to spend less than 2000Rs. belongs to middle income class thus may be going to open gyms, fitness centers or regular fitness classes as these are only available options that fit in this cost. Those who opted to spend between 2000-5000 INR. belong to either upper middle class or high-income groups and according to demographics include Gen-Z and millennials. This is because this generation prioritizes fitness the most and thus investing a significant portion of their income into keeping themselves fit is what satisfies them. The last segment where respondents are spending between the bracket 5000-8000Rs. mainly comprises of either fitness influencers or sportspersons. Therefore, it is very important to identify the demographic factors and how the individuals perceive fitness as a goal while evaluating the amount spent by them.
