The Australia data center construction market size is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.98% between 2024 and 2032.
Development of new data centres and government support is expected to support the growth of Australia data centre construction market
The Australian Government, through agencies like the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), is revamping its data centre approach. Their strategy, the Australia Government Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025, aims to move away from government-owned facilities and leverage shared resources offered by external providers.
There has been a recent surge in the development of data centres powered by renewable energy sources. For example, in March 2021, an Australian company, Fibre Expressway, proposed building three data centres in Western Australia and the Northern Territory as part of Project Koete.
Amazon announced plans to build new data centres in Melbourne and Sydney in February 2024. The Sydney data centre will be located in the southwest part of the city, at 52 Turner Road in Smeaton Grange. It's estimated to cost around USD 32.38 million USD and will be the second facility for Amazon in Smeaton Grange Park. The data centre will have the necessary equipment to run smoothly, including backup generators, cooling systems, battery storage, and a substation.
