The study indicated that 19.91% of the total respondents are willing to use a lesser amount of plastic, followed closely by 18.10% who state that they can save water to contribute to sustainability. Another 15.38% of people are up to using public transportation, to reduce the total pollutants released through vehicles. 13.57% of the respondents wish to transition to LED lighting and energy efficient appliances. This can impact the total carbon emissions massively as electricity and heat production is a major contributor to greenhouse gases. 12.22% of the people are inclined towards engaging in gardening activities, planting trees and contributing to life on land. The remaining 20.36% of the participants are adopting sustainability measures in their lives by decreasing their purchases of new items, choosing local and homegrown brands, reducing their meat consumption, or traveling by train instead of plane.
There Is a Growing Demand for Sustainable Alternatives Among the Younger Population In India
The study focuses on what are the various new avenues for companies working in the green manufacturing sector and looks at navigating ways to capitalize on consumer’s sustainability habits. There is a huge market demand for sustainable and green products to support the building habits of Gen Z in India. The study suggests that manufacturers should focus on producing recyclable materials and introduce innovations in water conservation among other practices. Government has also launched various initiatives and schemes to support businesses working in the sustainable sector such as tax benefits on biomass production, lower GST on solar panels, etc.
