Global Veterinary Ultrasound Devices Market to Grow at a CAGR of 4.8% During the Period 2024-2032, Driven by Advancements in Technology, Rising Instances of Pet Ownership, and Growing Demand for Animal Healthcare

Global Veterinary Ultrasound Devices Market

According to a new report by EMR titled, ‘Global Veterinary Ultrasound Devices Market Report and Forecast 2024-2032’, The global veterinary ultrasound devices market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% during the period 2024-2032.

The global veterinary ultrasound devices market is expected to be driven by factors such as rising demand for veterinarians, and an increase in the number of veterinary practitioners, animals adopted as pets, physically demanding animal-sporting events, and demand for better animal healthcare. Increased number of sports competitions demanding greater involvement of animal strength have also contributed to a rise in musculoskeletal injuries.  The primary markets are projected to be North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.

Technological developments have led veterinary ultrasound systems to become more advanced and offer more versatility and improved diagnostic capability. Ultrasound techniques are gaining much significance in animal reproduction, offering both diagnostic as well as therapeutic means. Ultrasound tests are now a standard element of diagnostic workups in reproduction and an understanding of the use of ultrasound technology has become all the more important in contemporary animal sciences. Ultrasonography is non-invasive, essentially non-toxic, radiation hazard free, generally does not warrant general anaesthesia or sedation, offers quick and dynamic visualization, permits precise location of biopsy needle, enables real time scanning, and is relatively inexpensive (when compared to CT or MRI scans).

Ultrasound technology enables evaluation of pregnancy status and foetal viability early post-breeding and identification of animals that fail to conceive, thereby enhancing reproductive efficiency; early recognition of animals having twin foetuses, permitting the application of differential management strategies to evade the negative consequences of twinning on the mother animal’s general health also during birthing; and visualisation of ovarian and uterine pathologies not exactly identified via rectal palpation, permitting the implementation of suitable therapies.  Ultrasonography can also help determine foetal sex in utero. Ultrasound-guided interventional techniques may be employed for diagnostic as well as therapeutic purposes. For example, ultrasonography is a widely available diagnostic modality for the identification of dogs with suspected ureteral ectopia.

In abdominal scanning, different abdominal organs may be scanned through sonography, such as hepatobiliary, spleen, gastro- intestinal tract, calculi in kidney and urinary bladder, hydronephrosis, bladder tumour, renal cortex and medulla.

In animal reproduction, ultrasonography has been used widely to observe ovarian follicular dynamics, pregnancy diagnosis, fetal wellbeing including fetal sexing, ovum pick-up technology (OPU) and to detect reproductive diseases.

In cardiac ultrasonography/echocardiography, ultrasound is employed to image the heart; it enables the practitioner to view detailed heart-structures, including chamber size, heart function, the valves of the heart, and the pericardium.

In limb ultrasonography, ultrasound enables the examination of tendons and ligaments of forelimbs and hind limbs; the procedure is extensively employed to certify the fitness of racehorses.

Ultrasound-guided biopsy is carried out on abdominal organs like liver, spleen, kidney, prostrate, abdominal mass, lesions etc.

Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound provides detailed 3-dimensional images of the baby, and helps in the identification of conditions such as a cleft lip that may not be recognized in a two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound. The 3D ultrasound allows for several types of manipulation, such as rotation and zooming, which permits better examination of ultrasonographic images. In four-dimensional (4D) ultrasonography, real-time element is included. This allows viewing of real-time motion.

Several leading manufacturers offer veterinary ultrasound machines for equine, large animal, small animal, zoo mammal, and marine mammal medicine. Major companies include IMV Imaging, Draminski S. A., FUJIFILM Sonosite Inc., E.I. Medical Imaging, and Esaote SpA.

In 2019, IMV Imaging won the Gold Stevie award for the Best New Product of the Year - Easi-Scan: Go – an innovative Wireless Bovine Ultrasound Scanner. The scanner could be employed for all bovine applications and was able to endure harsh farm environments.
