Motors change given electrical energy into mechanical energy. While many types of motors are commonly used, brushless DC motors (BLDC) offer superior controllability and efficiency, and are extensively employed in multiple applications. Also, brushless DC motors save more power as compared to other types of motors, driving the growth of the brushless DC motor market.
Brushless DC motors offer several advantages over other types of motors. For example, these motors offer greater efficiency due to continual control at maximum torque. On the other hand, brushed motors touch maximum torque only at particular points during rotation. A brushed motor would require bigger magnets to give the same torque as a brushless DC motor. Thus, even smaller brushless DC motors are able to offer substantial power. Further, brushless DC motors offer more controllability through feedback mechanisms that provide exactly the required torque and speed of rotation. In turn, precision control decreases consumption of energy and generation of heat; where motors are powered by battery, it increases battery life.
Brushless DC motors are more durable and generate lower electric noise due to absence of brushes, supporting the expansion of the brushless DC motor market. In brushed motors, continual moving contact results in wear and tear of brushes and commutator, and generation of sparks at the point of contact. Thus, brushless DC motors are preferred in uses where electrical noise is to be avoided.
It has been suggested the brushless DC motor market would witness greater use in a variety of applications in the future, such as driving service robots, mobility and golf carts, drones, etc.
In 2021, ASPINA launched DR-35314 - a novel brushless DC motor suited to compact household appliances (such as hand blenders and milling machines). The lightweight and compact solution was capable of running on low voltages and gave a high output of 100W.
In 2022, ASPINA developed a low-profile brushless DC motor in view of the fact that greater demand was expected for area sensors, LiDAR, and scanners in different applications, and that compact solutions were required to fulfil future market needs.
