Global Endoscopy Devices Market: Introduction and Insight

Endoscopy is a medical procedure in which observation of internal body organs is performed by passing a long tube through a natural opening with a wireless camera inside to see visuals from inside of a patient’s body. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive medical procedures and it is time consuming. The equipment and tools that are used to perform endoscopy are known as endoscopy devices. These endoscopy devices play major role in a successful endoscopy. Endoscope is the device that is used in endoscopy with a camera and light on the tip, to provide clear visuals from inside of body. The observations that are done using endoscopy are of three types, that is, investigation of concern, confirmation of concern, and treatment of concern.

Some common endoscopy procedures include colonoscopy, cystoscopy, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, and gastroscopy.

  • Colonoscopy: Colonoscopy is performed to observe the tube in your body in which food travels right from the process of ingestion to digestion till the excretion. It is also known as bowel. Colonoscopy is performed in order to observe the symptoms in your bowel. The endoscopic device used in this is known as a Colonoscope.
  • Cystoscopy: Cystoscopy is performed to observe the bladder. This procedure takes place when a thin, flexible tube with a cystoscope on top, is inserted into the urethra to make the observation inside.
  • Colposcopy: Colposcopy is performed to observe the cervix in a female body. The cervix is also known as the opening to the womb. This procedure is performed by inserting a speculum (soft, tube-like tool) to open the vagina to then insert a microscope through it, to have a better and clear vision of cervix. The tool used in this procedure is known as Colposcope.
  • Hysteroscopy: Hysteroscopy is performed to observe the inner part of a womb, also called as uterus. This procedure is also performed just as coloscopy, but it goes a bit further. In hysteroscopy, the microscope is taken inside the womb for the observation. The hysteroscope sends images to a computer screen for them to be clear and better.
  • Gastroscopy: Gastroscopy is performed to observe the parts of your digestive system which includes throat, oesophagus, and stomach. A soft flexible tube is inserted into the mouth with a little camera inside. This tube is then passed through the throat, oesophagus, and stomach. Biopsy can also be performed by the gastroscope.

Global Endoscopy Devices Market Analysis

The global endoscopic devices market demand has been rising and is expected to witness an exponential rise in the coming years, driven by rapid advancement in the endoscopic technologies and increasing health problems in people, specifically persistent gastrointestinal issues. These persistent gastrointestinal health problems have an 80-90% chance of being cancer, if not, then converting into cancer if left untreated. From the data released by NCBI, it is known that the fifth most common kind of cancer with high mortality rate is gastric cancer. It caused over 783,000 deaths in 2018.

The tools that are used for endoscopy procedures are known as endoscopes in general. However, there are several endoscopes that are specifically designed and used for exclusive endoscopic procedures. Due to the increasing demand in the endoscopic procedures worldwide, these tools are also in high demand.
