Kerry Inc, Danone SA, Nestlé SA, Doehler Group SE, and Oatly AB, among others, are the key players in the Europe dairy alternatives market.
The Europe dairy alternatives market is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 10.7% in the forecast period of 2022-2027. As per the analysis by Expert Market Research, the market is expected to be driven by increasing health-consciousness and changing dietary patterns.
Europe has one of the largest vegan populations in the world, which is significantly contributing to the demand for dairy alternatives in the region. With the increasing incidences of dairy allergies and lactose intolerance and milk allergies, the demand for plant-based dairy alternatives made of almond, coconut, and soy, among others, is increasing.
The emerging trend of sustainability is also fuelling consumers’ inclination towards plant-based products, hence driving the demand for dairy alternatives products in Europe. In addition, the rising awareness regarding the health benefits of dairy alternatives products such as antioxidant benefits is likely to support the market growth.
In December 2021, Oatly Group announced a collaboration with Deutsche Bahn (DB), through which its Oatly Barista Edition was to be available in the onboard catering of Intercity and ICE trains in Germany. Through the collaboration, Oatly became the first company to offer plant-based milk alternatives for consumers in trains for the first time.
The Oatly Barista Edition was made to be available with Fairtrade certified Caffè Crema and provide consumers with the opportunity to try plant-based milk alternatives. Through the initiative, the companies also intended to boost the consumption of plant-based milk and drive the shift towards a plant-based and sustainable food system.
