With the motive to study this further, a survey was conducted by Expert Market Research encompassing over 50,000 respondents from major cities in India. It delves into why people choose to consume alcohol.

Different Reasons for Consuming Alcohol
Half of the respondents around 44.13% stated that they prefer to drink alcohol during social events and gatherings with friends and family. This was followed by 30.00% citing that do not like to drink alcohol. The feel-good factor also motivates 20.42% of the consumers to drink alcohol. Peer pressure is another factor where people indulge in alcohol consumption. There can be events like weddings, parties, and corporate functions that may require people to consume alcohol, or they might feel left out. The motivation behind drinking in these gatherings is to enhance enjoyment and relaxation. Alcohol psychologically helps people to loosen up making them less shy and easier to chat.
Office party and gatherings have alcohol present and people tend to indulge more in these occasions especially when there are expensive drinks available for free or the total expense is less. This study also delves into the predominant reasons for people to not consume alcohol. The survey also found that there are some religious and cultural beliefs play a crucial role in shaping attitudes toward alcohol. Respondents feel that their religions require abstinence, which influences their willingness to steer towards of alcohol.
