Market Overview

The United States remained the priciest of the four markets through the first half, and the story is simple: the pressure came off. The average slipped from USD 6020/MT in the first quarter to USD 5750/MT in the second, about 4.5 percent lower, and this was written in the fields, not the trade. Fresh Gujarat and Rajasthan husk reached export buyers and unwound the tightness carried over from late 2025. The global average did the same in miniature, USD 5620/MT down to USD 5370/MT, off 4.4 percent. Our call for the second half is a band of USD 5150 to 5650/MT, with the seasonal glut thinning into the fourth quarter as pharmaceutical and supplement buyers come back to restock. Keep the mechanism in mind: this is a supply-led market, and it turns on what the fields deliver, not on what buyers want.

The material itself is the milled seed coat of Plantago ovata, isabgol across South Asia, a soluble fibre that swells into a gel in water. Grades run wide. Commercial husk starts at 95 percent purity and climbs to the 99 percent pharmaceutical grade, and because almost the whole crop is Indian, the export price out of Unjha and Kandla is what everyone else prices off. Bulk laxative and pharmaceutical use is far and away the biggest pull, close to 35 to 40 percent of demand, and after that come dietary supplements, fibre-fortified food, and a thin feed and cosmetics tail. Four things move the number: the monsoon and the crop it delivers, supplement demand in the US and Europe, the rupee against the dollar, and ocean freight.

Psyllium Husk Price Forecast for 2026

Our read on the second half is soft, tilting to balanced. The spring harvest put exportable stock back on the shelf and drew the urgency out of spot trade, so the heavy forward buying of last winter has largely worked itself off. A floor still holds, though. Raw seed at Unjha stays expensive, and processors keep rationing export-grade husk toward their best contracts, which should stop any real washout. This is a market that inches along, not one that jumps. The practical read for procurement is to time cover to the crop calendar, not the spot quote; the cheapest window opens with fresh arrivals and closes as the trade restocks.

What would push it higher? A weak or patchy monsoon, one that damages the coming sowing and drives seed costs past the top of the range, and that's the one we'd watch first. The other direction is just as live: a bumper crop landing on slower nutraceutical restocking would leave the market soft beneath the band. Our read is that the odds still favour the softer side into the third quarter, before restocking pulls prices back toward the middle.

Region 2026 Price Range (USD/MT) Outlook
Global Average 5150 - 5650 Harvest supply and steady fibre demand balance the range
United States 5550 - 6100 Supplement and laxative demand keep the import premium firm
Germany 5400 - 5950 Pharma and gluten-free food demand sustain a premium
China 5000 - 5500 Growing nutraceutical use lifts a middle range
India 4750 - 5250 Post-harvest arrivals keep the source price the lowest

For the Quarter Ending June 2026

Psyllium Husk Prices Q2 2026:

  • United States: USD 5750/MT
  • Germany: USD 5600/MT
  • China: USD 5180/MT
  • India: USD 4940/MT

Psyllium Husk Prices in the United States

One thing explained the second quarter here, and it came from the fields rather than the buyers. The fresh Indian harvest filled the export pipeline and broke the winter squeeze that had kept availability tight, so landed costs eased as new-crop material displaced dearer spot lots left from late 2025. Demand was present, but patient. Supplement and laxative brands had already covered forward through the first quarter, so they leaned on held stock and were happy to wait for the new crop rather than chase. The American average, still highest of the four, fell about 4.5 percent to USD 5750/MT in Q2 2026 from USD 6020/MT in Q1.

Psyllium Husk Prices in Germany

Germany moved almost in step, for the same reason: supply loosening, not any shift on the demand side. Pharmaceutical thickener buyers and gluten-free bakers kept ordering at their usual pace while the new Indian crop relaxed the tightness that had inflated first-quarter offers. Importers who booked ahead let contracted stock carry the period rather than chase spot, a firm euro shaved a little more off landed cost, and German offers averaged USD 5600/MT in Q2 2026, down about 4.4 percent from USD 5860/MT in Q1. Do not read the German premium as a demand signal. It is freight and currency stacked on the Indian FOB, and it holds through the cycle.

Psyllium Husk Prices in China

China held a firmer floor, on nutraceutical and traditional-medicine buying, yet the average still gave up about 4.4 percent to reach USD 5180/MT in Q2 2026 from USD 5420/MT in Q1. The seasonal wave of fresh Indian husk did the work. It eased the tightness that had run through the winter and pulled offers lower even as consumption held level. Buyers timed purchases to the new-crop arrivals to catch the softer numbers. Improved availability set the quarter down, not any retreat in demand.

Psyllium Husk Prices in India

At the source, India printed the lowest of the four, USD 4940/MT in Q2 2026, off about 4.7 percent from USD 5180/MT in Q1. The spring harvest across Gujarat and Rajasthan lifted seed arrivals at Unjha and cleared the tight old-crop position that had firmed prices into the first quarter. Processors ran fuller lines while setting high-purity husk aside for export buyers. Export enquiry stayed healthy, and a steady rupee kept FOB realisations from sliding further than fresh supply already dictated. Keep the concentration in view: almost the entire world crop sits in these two states, so a single poor monsoon moves every importing market at once.

For the Quarter Ending March 2026

Psyllium Husk Prices Q1 2026:

  • United States: USD 6020/MT
  • Germany: USD 5860/MT
  • China: USD 5420/MT
  • India: USD 5180/MT

Psyllium Husk Prices in the United States

The first quarter ran the other way, and the US hit a cyclical peak. Two forces converged. Pre-harvest supply had thinned to its tightest point of the year just as a wave of export forward-buying arrived, with supplement and laxative brands booking early to lock in export-grade husk before the crop came in. Indian processors gave those contracts first call on the high-purity material, so the gut-health trend kept the pull firm while spot offers thinned out. Up about 6.7 percent, to USD 6020/MT in Q1 2026 from USD 5640/MT in Q4 2025.

Psyllium Husk Prices in Germany

German importers spent those weeks competing for a shrinking pool of husk. The pre-harvest drawdown of Indian stock thinned availability just as European pharmaceutical and gluten-free food buyers came up for annual contract renewals. Rather than gamble on a bare spot market later, they moved early to pin down high-purity material. That scramble carried offers to a cyclical high of USD 5860/MT in Q1 2026, up about 6.7 percent from USD 5490/MT in Q4 2025.

Psyllium Husk Prices in China

China felt the same pre-harvest scarcity out of India, with a twist of its own: nutraceutical and traditional-medicine demand had been building at home just as the export husk turned scarce. Chinese buyers found themselves bidding against Western importers for what supply there was, and firmer ocean freight layered further cost onto every landed shipment. The result was a rise of about 6.7 percent to USD 5420/MT in Q1 2026 from USD 5080/MT in Q4 2025, a peak reached for the plainest of reasons: supply couldn't keep up with the pull.

Psyllium Husk Prices in India

Low carry-in and a crowded export queue drove Indian prices to a seasonal high of USD 5180/MT in Q1 2026, up about 6.8 percent from USD 4850/MT in Q4 2025. Old-crop stock had run thin ahead of the spring harvest, and a rush of export orders large enough to absorb much of processable output tightened things further. Processors held high-purity husk back for premium export contracts, and exporters saw no reason to discount. That lifted the quoted FOB level even before the fresh crop was in sight.

Quarterly Psyllium Husk Price Trends

Looking back across six quarters, the crop calendar is hard to miss. The market firmed steadily from the middle of 2025 into the first quarter of 2026, then the spring harvest cooled it in the second. In order: a post-harvest low of USD 4950/MT in Q2 2025, up through USD 5110/MT in Q3 and USD 5270/MT in Q4, a cyclical peak of USD 5620/MT in Q1 2026, then back to USD 5370/MT in Q2 2026. Net, about 8.5 percent. The harvest and export forward-buying set the shape start to finish, and we'd watch those same two signals for the next turn.

What was Psyllium Husk Price in 2025?

2025 followed the familiar seasonal arc. Firm in the first quarter as old-crop stock drew down, softer through the second as the fresh harvest landed, then firming again across the third and fourth as the supplement and pharmaceutical trade rebuilt inventory. Globally the average ran from about USD 5180/MT in the first quarter to USD 5270/MT by the fourth, call it 1.7 percent on the year, with a clear mid-year dip in the middle. Three things wrote the story: crop seasonality, steady US and European nutraceutical demand, and the rupee against the dollar. The same saw-tooth, low after the harvest and firm before it, prints most years, and 2025 held to it.

Psyllium Husk Prices in the United States in 2025

A tight old-crop drawdown set a firm tone in the US early on, before the arriving harvest eased the market through the middle of the year. From there the supplement and gut-health trend rebuilt buying across the second half, and late-year export competition firmed offers back up. Prices ended at USD 5640/MT in the fourth quarter against about USD 5550/MT in the first, a gain of around 1.6 percent.

Psyllium Husk Prices in Germany in 2025

Steady demand carried Germany through the year. Pharmaceutical thickener and gluten-free baking buyers held their pace throughout while the mid-year harvest dip handed importers a window to restock. Availability tightened again into the second half, European buyers renewed contracts and lifted offers, and prices edged from about USD 5400/MT in the first quarter to USD 5490/MT in the fourth, up roughly 1.7 percent on that dependable demand.

Psyllium Husk Prices in China in 2025

Growing health-supplement use was the thread running through the Chinese year. Nutraceutical and traditional-medicine demand kept a steady undertone; the mid-year harvest eased spot costs for a spell; and buyers timed purchases to those arrivals before tracking the export market higher into the fourth quarter. Prices went from roughly USD 5000/MT in the first quarter to USD 5080/MT by the fourth, up about 1.6 percent.

Psyllium Husk Prices in India in 2025

As the production hub, India set the seasonal tone the importing markets followed. The spring harvest eased seed costs at mid-year before export orders and thinning stock pulled FOB realisations back up across the second half, and strong export enquiry riding on the crop calendar carried the year higher. Indian prices firmed from roughly USD 4750/MT in the first quarter to USD 4850/MT by the fourth, up about 2.1 percent.

Key Questions Answered in the Report

Bulk laxative and pharmaceutical products are the big one, close to 35 to 40 percent of demand. After that come dietary supplements, fibre-fortified food, then smaller feed and cosmetic uses.

In the second quarter of 2026, the average sat at USD 5750/MT in the United States, USD 5600/MT in Germany, USD 5180/MT in China, and USD 4940/MT in India. FOB India is really the benchmark that every other market prices off.

The global average firmed from about USD 5180/MT in the first quarter of 2025 to USD 5270/MT by the fourth, roughly 1.7 percent higher, with a mid-year harvest dip sitting in between as crop seasonality and steady demand set the overall course.

Thin pre-harvest stock ran into heavy export forward-buying and strong gut-health supplement demand at the same time, and together these factors carried the market to a cyclical peak near USD 5620/MT globally in the first quarter of 2026.

We expect the global average to hold inside a range of USD 5150 to 5650/MT through the second half, as the new harvest keeps supply comfortable before export restocking activity firms prices back up heading into the fourth quarter.

India holds the lowest FOB price as the production source, the United States and Germany carry a freight-adjusted import premium, and China sits in between.

This data updates monthly. For real-time pricing intelligence, reaching out to the Expert Market Research team is the quickest way to get it.

The Gujarat and Rajasthan crop and monsoon conditions lead the way here, working alongside sowing acreage, export demand levels, the rupee's movement against the dollar, and ocean freight costs.

India grows almost the entire world crop, mostly concentrated in Gujarat and Rajasthan, so its export price effectively sets the global floor, and any shortfall there spreads quickly to every importing market.

Procurement teams should time contracts to the spring harvest low, cover forward before the winter tightening sets in, and watch the monsoon and sowing conditions closely as the clearest read on the production floor.
