Market Overview

Europe paid the most for tetradecane this quarter. Prices there rose 9.7% in Q2 2026, from USD 1,750/MT to USD 1,920/MT, as a Middle East conflict-driven spike in crude and naphtha prices pushed feedstock costs sharply higher right across the quarter. Globally the average jumped from USD 1,597/MT in Q1 2026 to USD 1,762/MT in Q2, up 10.3%, reversing a soft stretch that had run through most of 2025 and into early 2026. That's a big move for one quarter. Expect a global average around USD 1,450-1,600/MT for the second half of 2026 though, as the geopolitical feedstock premium unwinds and crude oil markets swing back toward oversupply.

Tetradecane is a fourteen-carbon linear paraffin hydrocarbon, recovered from the kerosene fraction of crude oil distillation or produced through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis from natural gas. It works as a feedstock cut for linear alkylbenzene and detergent-alcohol manufacturing, and it also functions as a specialty solvent in its own right. Surfactant and detergent-alcohol production pulls in the largest share of demand, since the compound's chain length suits household and industrial cleaning-agent formulation particularly well. Specialty solvent use in paints, coatings, and industrial cleaning, phase-change material applications for thermal energy storage, and oilfield chemical formulation round out the rest. Prices come down to crude oil and naphtha feedstock costs, refinery run rates, and however strong detergent-alcohol sector demand happens to be at any given moment.

Tetradecane Price Forecast for 2026

Easing, most likely, through the back half of 2026. Global oil markets are expected to swing back toward oversupply as the second-quarter geopolitical disruption resolves, which should pull crude and naphtha feedstock costs back down from their Q2 2026 peak. Refinery run rates should stay steady. Detergent-alcohol sector demand should settle back into its normal seasonal pace.

Renewed Middle East shipping or production disruption could re-ignite the same feedstock premium seen in the second quarter, and that's the main thing to watch upside. Downside, a faster-than-expected drop in crude prices, or soft demand out of China's property and auto sectors, would likely ease buying back below this forecast.

Region 2026 Price Range (USD/MT) Outlook
Global Average 1,450 - 1,600 Feedstock costs normalise as oil markets return to oversupply
United States 1,480 - 1,620 Gulf Coast refinery output keeps it in a firm middle
China 1,380 - 1,520 Ample regional supply keeps China the cheapest option
Europe 1,580 - 1,720 Higher import-linked feedstock costs keep it the priciest
Middle East 1,400 - 1,540 Integrated refining capacity supports a firm floor

For the Quarter Ending June 2026

Tetradecane Prices Q2 2026:

  • United States: USD 1,780/MT
  • China: USD 1,680/MT
  • Europe: USD 1,920/MT
  • Middle East: USD 1,670/MT

Tetradecane Prices in the United States

Climbed to USD 1,780/MT in Q2 2026, up 9.9% from USD 1,620/MT in Q1 2026. A Middle East conflict-driven spike in crude and freight costs pushed feedstock and war-risk insurance costs sharply higher across the quarter, and the US market felt all of it.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q2 2026 in the United States?

Crude and naphtha costs jumped as the conflict escalated. Freight and war-risk insurance piled more pressure on top. Ended up at USD 1,780/MT by quarter's end.

Tetradecane Prices in China

The sharpest regional move of the quarter. Prices jumped 14.3% to USD 1,680/MT from USD 1,470/MT in Q1, as naphtha costs surged alongside the broader crude spike and port congestion made things worse by limiting how much spot material was actually available.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q2 2026 in China?

Naphtha surged with the broader spike, port congestion made availability worse. Together, those pushed the market sharply higher to USD 1,680/MT.

Tetradecane Prices in Europe

Reached USD 1,920/MT, the highest among tracked markets, up 9.7% from USD 1,750/MT in Q1. Import-linked naphtha costs rose sharply, and elevated freight plus war-risk insurance premiums added even more pressure on top of that.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q2 2026 in Europe?

Naphtha costs climbed sharply, freight and insurance premiums stayed elevated the whole time. Pushed the market up to USD 1,920/MT.

Tetradecane Prices in the Middle East

Rose to USD 1,670/MT, up 7.7% from USD 1,550/MT in Q1. Regional conflict disrupted shipping routes and lifted domestic feedstock costs, and even integrated producers with their own refining capacity weren't spared from the increase.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q2 2026 in the Middle East?

Shipping routes faced disruption most of the quarter, and domestic feedstock costs rose even for integrated producers. Ended the quarter at USD 1,670/MT.

For the Quarter Ending March 2026

Tetradecane Prices Q1 2026:

  • United States: USD 1,620/MT
  • China: USD 1,470/MT
  • Europe: USD 1,750/MT
  • Middle East: USD 1,550/MT

Tetradecane Prices in the United States

Held at USD 1,620/MT in Q1 2026, essentially unchanged from Q4 2025. Naphtha costs firmed a little as early Middle East tension started to build, though steady refinery output largely offset it.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q1 2026 in the United States?

Naphtha firmed slightly, refinery output stayed steady. The two roughly cancelled out.

Tetradecane Prices in China

Eased to USD 1,470/MT in Q1 2026, down about 3.3% from Q4 2025. Regional inventory stayed ample, and port congestion kept the market soft right up until the sharp reversal that came in Q2.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q1 2026 in China?

Ample inventory, added port congestion on top. The market eased to USD 1,470/MT as a result.

Tetradecane Prices in Europe

Rose to USD 1,750/MT, up about 4.2% from Q4 2025. Naphtha costs started firming as regional tension began to build, a preview of the much sharper increase that followed in the second quarter.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q1 2026 in Europe?

Naphtha started firming late in the quarter, import demand held steady. Advanced to USD 1,750/MT heading into Q2.

Tetradecane Prices in the Middle East

Climbed to USD 1,550/MT, up about 9.2% from Q4 2025, the earliest sign of the feedstock cost pressure that intensified sharply in the second quarter. Tension along shipping routes had already begun lifting domestic costs before anyone else felt it.

Why did the price of Tetradecane change in Q1 2026 in the Middle East?

Shipping-route tension hit here first, lifting domestic costs ahead of other markets. Advanced to USD 1,550/MT, a preview of what came next.

Quarterly Tetradecane Price Trends

A narrow band, then a spike. Global tetradecane prices moved in a tight range through 2025 and early 2026, then jumped sharply in the second quarter once Middle East conflict disrupted crude and shipping markets. The average rose from USD 1,595/MT in Q2 2025 to USD 1,615/MT in Q3, eased to USD 1,560/MT in Q4, held near USD 1,597/MT in Q1 2026, then jumped to USD 1,762/MT in Q2. Net gain across the window: about 10.5%. Swings in crude and naphtha feedstock costs, plus shipping-route disruption, explain most of that pattern.

Quarter Price (USD/MT) QoQ Change Direction
Q2 2026 1,762 +10.3% ↑ Rising
Q1 2026 1,597 +2.4% ↑ Rising
Q4 2025 1,560 -3.4% ↓ Falling

What was Tetradecane Price in 2025?

Down for most of the year, basically. Ample crude and naphtha supply outweighed what was otherwise steady downstream demand. The global average opened near USD 1,695/MT in Q1 2025 and fell to USD 1,560/MT by Q4, a full-year decline of about 8.0%. A brief third-quarter rebound, driven by restocking and stronger auto and coatings demand, only partly interrupted that downward trend. Softening crude prices, ample regional inventories, and a late-year slowdown in construction and lubricant demand were the main forces shaping 2025, setting up the tighter conditions that eventually gave way to the sharp Middle East-driven spike in the second quarter of 2026.

Tetradecane Prices in the United States in 2025

US prices eased from about USD 1,760/MT in Q1 2025 to USD 1,620/MT by Q4, down about 8.0%. Falling crude and naphtha costs outweighed a brief third-quarter rebound tied to stronger auto and coatings demand, leaving the year down overall.

Tetradecane Prices in China in 2025

Chinese prices eased from about USD 1,620/MT in Q1 2025 to USD 1,520/MT by Q4, down roughly 6.2%, as ample regional inventory and softening naphtha costs kept pulling the market lower most of the year.

Tetradecane Prices in Europe in 2025

European prices eased from about USD 1,850/MT in Q1 2025 to USD 1,680/MT by Q4, down about 9.2%, the steepest decline among tracked markets, driven by falling import-linked naphtha costs and a construction-sector slowdown.

Tetradecane Prices in the Middle East in 2025

Middle East prices eased from about USD 1,550/MT in Q1 2025 to USD 1,420/MT by Q4, down roughly 8.4%. Softening regional crude costs and steady, if unspectacular, downstream demand kept the market drifting lower all year.

Crude oil and naphtha feedstock costs, refinery run rates, freight and shipping-route conditions, and detergent-alcohol sector demand.

The United States, China, and the Middle East hold the largest production bases, while Europe relies more on imports. A shipping-route disruption in any of these places ripples across the rest.

Time detergent-alcohol and solvent contract talks around quarterly trends, watch crude and naphtha costs as an early signal, and build forward coverage before expected feedstock cost swings.
