The global market for aesthetic implants is likely to be driven by several factors, including an expanding middle class, growing disposable income (particularly female disposable income), increasing awareness towards personal beauty and care, better accessibility and rising adoption of aesthetic processes, advancements and innovations in aesthetic procedures, and an increase in the number of qualified surgeons. North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia are projected to be key markets.
The different types of aesthetic implants include:
Facial implants – These implants are employed to give shape to different parts of the face (forehead, nasal dorsal, temples, cheekbones, jaw, lips, and chin).
Breast implants – These implants are used to give shape to or increase the volume of female breasts.
Pectoral and abdominal implants – Men generally opt for pectoral implants to enhance the appearance of their chest. Abdominal implants, for men as well as women, create the appearance of well-defined abdominal muscles.
Testicular implants – For men born without a testicle or who have lost a testicle due to illness or injury, testicular implants are an alternative. These implants are meant to improve appearance, and do not work like real testicles.
Implants for upper and lower limbs – These implants are used to augment the appearance of different body parts, such as the glutes, calves, biceps, and triceps.
Breast augmentation has been the chief surgical procedure in the market, and is expected to remain the key market driver. The international breast implant market has grown significantly, with an increasing number of women opting for the procedure. Women choose breast implants to make their breasts larger and fuller. The procedures are carried out for reconstructive purposes (for example after mastectomy for breast cancer), or for purely aesthetic reasons. There are two main types of breast implants - saline and silicone gel. Saline-filled implants refer to silicone shells filled with sterile salt water (saline); while some implants are pre-filled, others are filled during the procedure. In silicone gel-filled implants are actually silicone shells filled with a plastic gel (silicone). Both types of implants are available in different sizes.
Chin enhancement procedures have witnessed sustained interest in the practice. There is growing recognition that chin enhancement helps balance the profile. Individuals seeking permanent chin prominence can opt for a chin implant.
Several people are exhibiting increased interest in combination procedures also. Such individuals seek something extra from a procedure, and a combination procedure may offer better overall results while being relatively cost-effective. An example of a combination procedure would be rhinoplasty and a chin implant. Another benefit of a combination surgical procedure is that it requires anaesthesia to be administered only once, and there is only one recovery period.
