The global cryogenic valve market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7% during the period 2022-2027. The market is expected to be driven by uses of cryogenic valves in industrial applications, such as those in industrial gases and LNG. North America, Europe and Asia are likely to be key markets.
Cryogenic valves are used in very cold applications (such as at temperatures below -400C), and are chiefly employed for gas liquefaction. In separation, transport and storage equipment, operating temperature could touch below -2700C. Cryogenic valves are mostly employed in companies that work with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The valves are commonly used in oil and gas industries where cryogenic temperature ranges go even lower than -1500C (-2380F).
Cryogenic valves come in different shapes and sizes, meant to function at different pressure ranges. Common types include ball, butterfly, relief and solenoid valves. These valves may be manual or automatic. Cryogenic ball valves include a polytetrafluoroethylene body. The flow rate offered is thus better than that of globe valves. These also display greater efficiency when a tight seal is needed in systems. Application is recommended in systems with unrestricted flow paths.
Cryogenic relief valves shield against overpressure above a particular value and enable steam to escape if safety limits are exceeded. Cryogenic non-return valves sustain pressure and prevent fluids from flowing back.
Cryogenic globe valves carry a spherical shape and an internal moving disc that rotates at a 90-degree angle to the plane of its body mounting. Thus, these provide effective long-term sealing. However, these are not suggested for use in high flow systems.
A cryogenic gate valve carries a wedge-shaped gate that closes in line with the body mounting, resulting in minimal pressure drop, even in fully open position.
A cryogenic butterfly valve carries a round disc in the centre, giving the valves shorter length. These are lightweight, cost-effective, simple to operate, and used in systems that warrant fast opening and closing actions.
KITZ offers stainless steel and carbon steel gate, globe, check, and ball valves for processing, storage, shipment, and distribution of ethylene, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and other low-temperature or cryogenic fluids, down to -1960C(-3210F). Use applications include Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG): LNG Liquefaction plants, Terminal; Ethylene Plants; Industrial low-temperature gases plant.
Samson offers solutions with cryogenic applications; the solutions are designed for cryogenic service. Fields of application and amounts of industrial gases expended vary significantly, and include industry, medicine, supply engineering and research. A significant factor for a successful gas supplier is the location of its production site. Strict regulations necessitate the use of constructions exceeding limits of conventional products. Products appropriate for cryogenic applications from the Samson product portfolio include cryogenic valves, self-operated regulators, and liquid level, differential pressure and flow meters.
Samson’s cryogenic valves are designed to meet the strict requirements of cryogenic applications. Fitted with insulating section or bellows seal, these can be employed at temperatures down to –2700C (in liquid helium service, for example). The company is capable of supplying the right overall heights and connections for every plant. Types 3598 and 3248 come with top-entry design as standard, meaning that the metal bellows, seat and plug could be replaced while the valve up to the height of the cover plate may remain enclosed or insulated.
ECONTROL offers a comprehensive range of globe, butterfly, ball and gate control valves for all cryogenic applications. All valve parts are certified to be sufficient for cryogenic service at -1960C.
Growing demand for LNG, especially in Asia, is expected to boost growth of the global cryogenic valve market. In 2021, USA led export growth with a year-on-year increase of over 23 million mt. In 2021, China and South Korea led growth in LNG demand. Global LNG demand is expected increase significantly in the near future. Asia is expected to be a key driver of growth.
