The logic business has become a capital spending race. Advanced nodes now cost so much to build that only three companies can credibly compete at the leading edge, and each of them spent 2025 and 2026 committing eye-watering sums to stay there. Where those fabs get built matters as much as what comes out of them, since governments now treat leading-edge logic as strategic infrastructure.
TSMC guided to capital spending of USD 52 to 56 billion for 2026 on its January 2026 results call, up from USD 40.9 billion in 2025. Around 70% to 80% of that goes into advanced process technologies including N3 and N2.
Intel began high-volume manufacturing of Panther Lake, its Core Ultra Series 3 processor, on the 18A node in January 2026. Built at Fab 52 in Chandler, Arizona, 18A pairs RibbonFET gate-all-around transistors with PowerVia backside power delivery.
NVIDIA took an equity stake of roughly 4% in Intel in September 2025, alongside an agreement to co-develop AI-optimised x86 processors and graphics silicon. The tie-up gives Intel a credible route back into data centre AI compute.
Samsung Electronics signed a USD 16.5 billion foundry agreement with Tesla in July 2025, its largest external foundry contract to date. The work is destined for the company’s fab at Taylor, Texas, and covers Tesla’s next-generation AI inference silicon.
Application specific integrated circuits are the dominant global logic semiconductor type. Custom AI accelerators, system-on-chip designs and bespoke datacentre silicon carry the highest value per wafer of anything in logic, and the hyperscalers keep commissioning more of them. General purpose logic, special purpose logic and display drivers make up the balance.
Programmable logic devices are the fastest-growing global logic semiconductor type. Field programmable gate arrays let designers change hardware behaviour after the silicon is fixed, which matters when AI model architectures shift faster than chip design cycles. Lattice Semiconductor and AMD both compete here. Display drivers remain a large, steady volume category.
Consumer electronics is the dominant global logic semiconductor end use, because smartphones, laptops, wearables and televisions ship in volumes nothing else approaches. Automotive is the fastest-growing end use, lifted by electric vehicles and the rising chip content behind advanced driver assistance systems. Communication and manufacturing follow.
Asia Pacific is the dominant global logic semiconductor region. Taiwan, South Korea and China hold most of the world’s leading-edge wafer capacity, and TSMC’s 2 nanometre production still runs from Taiwan. Samsung, Renesas and Fuji Electric add further regional depth across foundry, automotive and power logic.
North America is a significant global logic semiconductor region, and reshoring is changing it fast. Intel now runs 18A at Fab 52 in Arizona, and Samsung is building Tesla silicon at Taylor, Texas. Europe is significant through STMicroelectronics and NXP, both weighted towards automotive and industrial logic.

By Type, application specific integrated circuits dominate because custom AI silicon carries the highest value
Application specific integrated circuits hold the largest global logic semiconductor market share by type. A custom AI accelerator or a datacentre system-on-chip commands a price per wafer that commodity logic simply cannot, and every hyperscaler now designs its own. Programmable logic devices grow fastest, since field programmable gate arrays let hardware behaviour change after the silicon is fixed. General purpose logic, special purpose logic and display drivers account for the rest.
By End Use, consumer electronics accounts for the dominant share on sheer device volume
Consumer electronics takes the dominant global logic semiconductor market share by end use. Smartphones, laptops, tablets, wearables and televisions ship in quantities that no other category comes close to matching, so volume alone secures the position. Automotive is the fastest grower. Electric vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems have pushed silicon content per car sharply higher, and safety-rated logic carries a premium. Communication and manufacturing complete the picture.

Asia Pacific is the dominant global logic semiconductor market region
Wafer capacity settles it. Taiwan, South Korea and China hold most of the world’s leading-edge fabs, and TSMC still produces its 2 nanometre silicon exclusively at home despite building abroad. The company guided to capital spending of USD 52 to 56 billion for 2026, well above the USD 40.9 billion it spent in 2025. Samsung, Renesas and Fuji Electric add further depth across foundry, automotive and power logic.
North America is the significant secondary region, and reshoring is reshaping it. Intel took its 18A node into high-volume manufacturing at Fab 52 in Chandler, Arizona, in January 2026, the most advanced logic process ever run on United States soil, and Samsung is building Tesla silicon at Taylor, Texas under a USD 16.5 billion contract. Europe is significant through STMicroelectronics and NXP, both weighted towards automotive and industrial logic. Latin America and the Middle East and Africa remain small.
The global logic semiconductor market is brutally concentrated at the leading edge. Only TSMC, Samsung and Intel can manufacture at 2 nanometre class nodes, because a single advanced fab now costs more than most companies are worth.
Below that tier the field opens up. Fabless designers such as AMD and Lattice compete vcvcccon architecture rather than process, while STMicroelectronics, NXP, Renesas and Fuji Electric hold strong positions in automotive and industrial logic where mature nodes and functional safety matter more than transistor density.
Founded in 1968 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Intel designs and manufactures processors and runs a foundry business. It began high-volume production of Panther Lake on its 18A node at Fab 52 in Arizona in January 2026, and NVIDIA took a stake of roughly 4% in September 2025 to co-develop AI-optimised x86 silicon.
Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, TSMC is the largest contract chipmaker in the world and the pioneer of the pure-play foundry model. It guided to record capital spending of USD 52 to 56 billion for 2026, with most of it directed at advanced N3 and N2 process technologies.
Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Suwon, South Korea, Samsung is both a major foundry and a leading designer of system LSI logic. Its 2 nanometre SF2 process entered mass production in late 2025, and in July 2025 it signed a USD 16.5 billion foundry contract with Tesla for its Taylor, Texas plant.
Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, STMicroelectronics supplies microcontrollers, automotive and industrial logic. It reported full-year 2025 revenues of USD 11.80 billion, down 11.1%, and has been carrying restructuring and phase-out costs while its automotive business works through a demand trough.
Other key players include Lattice Semiconductor Corporation, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc, NXP Semiconductors N.V, Fuji Electric Co., Ltd, Renesas Electronics Corporation, and Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, among others.
