The cold storage and dairy logistics landscape in South Korea is going through an aggressive investment cycle, driven by processors demanding faster and more reliable distribution for high-value dairy SKUs. Seoul Milk, Maeil Dairies, Namyang Dairy, Binggrae and Lotte Foods are scaling cold warehouses, partnering with 3PL operators, and installing data-tracking systems to maintain temperature integrity from plant to retail shelves.
In September 2025, Bart Milk announced plans to supply its white milk brands, Mu and Meadow Star, to domestic food manufacturers, restaurants, bakery cafes, and consumers. On the other hand, in October 2025, Danone introduced its new Milk Academy to bolster the resilience and sustainability of its global dairy supply chain.
Firms are reporting that a significant share of its capex went into new automated cold chambers close to metropolitan distribution hubs, enabling faster loading time for yogurt drinks and fortified beverages. This shows that supply infrastructure is gradually turning into a competitive lever tied directly to sales performance.

Foodservice demand has added urgency to the logistics upgrade cycle. Pizza chains, bakeries and school catering services expect stable supply of cheese and yogurt beverages, which forces processors to avoid temperature breaks that can cause spoilage claims. For example, Lotte Foods’ Incheon facility expansion has helped reduce stockouts for foodservice clients in peak consumption windows. Hypermarkets and convenience stores are pushing for shorter lead times, especially for fresh milk and drinkable yogurt categories that are sold out owing to daily demand patterns rather than weekly shopping trips.
Technology adoption is surfacing as the biggest structural change. RFID pallets, warehouse management software and real-time temperature monitoring are now becoming standard requirements for dairy logistics instead of early-adopter features. Automated dock scheduling is reducing truck turnaround times and improving milk distribution consistency with reduced penalty fees from retailers. 3PLs are reacting to this shift as well. Companies like CJ Logistics and Lotte Global Logistics are advertising plug-and-play refrigerated storage blocks and milk-optimized delivery slots designed for dairy processors that cannot afford delivery unpredictability.
The industry is also preparing for geographic diversification as the demand for dairy beverages is growing outside Seoul. However, cold chain infrastructure in Tier-2 cities has historically lagged behind. To address this challenge, companies are announcing an incremental investment in refrigerated cross-dock facilities to shorten delivery routes for yogurt drinks and flavored milk lines.
Retail and eCommerce channels are shaping logistics priorities in parallel. Quick-commerce platforms are requesting more frequent, smaller deliveries of dairy beverages and cheese SKUs. Companies that fail to support this model risk losing impulse-driven sales. Subscription commerce for pediatric nutrition products is another factor, prompting processors to create dedicated cold-storage staging zones for recurring orders to avoid delays.
Refrigeration efficiency upgrades, renewable-power usage and low-GWP refrigerants are being largely sought after by large retailers, but these improvements carry higher upfront cost. Energy-efficient warehouses help lower total cost of ownership in the long term but create short-term financial strain. Cold storage labor shortage adds another challenge, compelling automation investments faster than originally planned. In spite of these cost hurdles, companies are continuing to expand because cold chain reliability is now tied directly to brand reputation.
The forecast period will likely be defined by companies that combine infrastructure modernization and logistics agility. Dairy processors with multi-node storage networks, high-accuracy data monitoring, and retailer-aligned delivery schedules are more likely to secure predictable volume and higher margins.
