Cassava Chips Prices, Demand and Supply Overview

China paid the most for cassava chips in Q3 2026: USD 258.0/MT, down 1.4% from USD 261.7/MT in Q2. Import duties, freight and port handling charges keep Chinese prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.6% to USD 232.5/MT from USD 236.2/MT, mostly because weaker demand from Chinese feed and ethanol buyers and larger stocks led exporters to lower offers in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 222.0-240.6/MT range, with demand from Chinese feed and ethanol buyers, the price of corn, port stocks and the size of the dry season harvest doing most of the work.

Cassava chips are sun-dried slices of cassava root, used mainly as a raw material for animal feed, ethanol and starch. They are exported in bulk, mostly to China, and are priced against corn and other feed grains. Prices in this report are quoted per metric ton and depend on drying conditions, starch content, freight and demand from feed mills and ethanol plants.

Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia are the largest exporters of cassava chips, and nearly all of their shipments go to China. Farmers dry roots in the field during the dry season, so output peaks between November and April. Chips compete directly with corn, sorghum and barley in feed rations, and when these grains become cheaper, Chinese buyers reduce chip purchases.

Cassava Chips Price Forecast for 2026

Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Chinese feed mills have ample supplies of cheaper corn, port stocks are high and ethanol demand is soft. The start of the dry season harvest and weather risk in the main growing areas limit the size of the decline. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 242.8/MT to USD 232.5/MT, a decrease of 4.2%.

The balance of risks for Q4 tilts downward. What could push prices higher? Dry weather that reduces the harvest, stronger demand from Chinese ethanol plants or higher corn prices would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Larger dry season harvests, cheaper corn or higher stocks at Chinese ports would lower prices.
