Germany paid the most for cherry tomatoes in Q3 2026: EUR 235.0/100 kg, down 0.9% from EUR 237.1/100 kg in Q2. Import costs, transport and retail margins and high energy costs for local greenhouse production keep German prices well above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.1% to EUR 198.8/100 kg from EUR 201.1/100 kg, mostly because harvests increased in Spain, Italy and France, which led wholesalers to lower purchase prices. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the EUR 189.9-205.8/100 kg range, with weather in the main growing areas, greenhouse energy costs, harvest volumes and demand from retailers doing most of the work.
Cherry tomatoes are small, sweet tomatoes sold on the vine or loose in punnets, and eaten fresh in salads, snacks and cooked dishes. Prices in this report refer to fresh cherry tomatoes at wholesale level and are quoted per 100 kilograms. They depend on harvest volumes, weather, greenhouse energy costs, labor costs and demand from retailers.
Production in Europe is concentrated in Spain, Italy, France, Poland and the Netherlands, with additional supply from Morocco in winter. Most of the crop is grown in greenhouses, so energy costs form a large part of the cost, and picking is done by hand. Tomatoes are perishable, and supply and prices change quickly with the weather. Prices vary by size, color, variety and packaging.
Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Harvests in the main growing areas are at their seasonal peak, but shorter days, higher energy costs and rising demand before the holiday season limit the size of the decline. Against EUR 195.9/100 kg in Q3 2025, the current global average of EUR 198.8/100 kg represents an increase of 1.5%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward lower prices. What could push prices higher? Cold or cloudy weather that slows ripening, higher energy costs or stronger holiday demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Mild weather that speeds up harvests, weaker retail demand or higher imports would lower prices.
