Canada paid the most for cream cheese in Q3 2026: USD 6,000/MT, down 0.9% from USD 6,054/MT in Q2. Supply management rules, high cream costs and steady demand from retailers and bakeries keep Canadian prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.2% to USD 5,225/MT from USD 5,288/MT, mostly because larger supplies of cream and lower butterfat prices led dairies to lower offers in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 4,990-5,410/MT range, with cream and butterfat prices, energy costs, demand from bakeries and food service users and holiday season demand doing most of the work.
Cream cheese is a soft, mild, spreadable cheese made from cream and milk, with a fat content of about 33 percent. It is used on bagels and bread, in cheesecakes and frostings, and in dips and sauces. Prices in this report refer to bulk cream cheese for food makers and are quoted per metric ton. They depend on cream prices, energy costs and demand from bakeries and food service users.
The United States is the largest producer and consumer, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada. Large dairies make the cheese in batches, then pack it in blocks for food makers and in tubs for retail. Cream is the main cost, so cream cheese prices follow butterfat markets with a short delay. Sales peak before holidays because of baking.
Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Cream supplies are larger and butterfat prices have eased, but demand from bakeries before the holidays limits the size of the decline. The Q3 2026 global average of USD 5,225/MT is 1.5% above the USD 5,150/MT of Q3 2025.
Risks to the Q4 outlook lean to the downside. What could push prices higher? Higher cream prices, lower milk fat supply or stronger holiday baking demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Lower butterfat prices, larger cream supply or weaker demand from bakeries would lower prices.
