Global Helicopter MRO Services Market

According to a new report by EMR titled, ‘Global Helicopter MRO Services Market Report and Forecast 2024-2032’, the global helicopter MRO services market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7% during the period 2024-2032, led by expansion of civil and military helicopter fleets.

The global helicopter MRO services market is likely to be driven by growing civil and military aircraft and helicopter fleets across the globe. Companies are also introducing MRO services as part of their diversification strategies, and to focus and complement work in energy, search and rescue, air medical and marine pilot transfers services. Need for specialist level MRO capabilities with advancements in technology is expected to drive market growth; with aircraft becoming larger and more technically advanced, a growing number of businesses feel the need for specialist level MRO capabilities. North America, Europe and Asia are expected to be key markets.

In 2022, HAL and Safran signed a strategic MoU during ground-breaking ceremony of HE-MRO at Goa, India. The MoU sought to extend cooperation between the organizations and explore opportunities for new helicopter engines in civil and military markets. The 1,000 sqm training and office facility and a 3,800 sqm international class shop facility would offer MRO services for Safran TM333 and HAL Shakti engines installed on HAL-built helicopters to increase operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.

In 2021, Airbus Helicopters and ZF Friedrichshafen AG entered into an agreement with respect to the acquisition of ZF Luftfahrttechnik GmbH by Airbus Helicopters. The acquisition was part of Airbus Helicopters’ strategy to strengthen its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. The step also contributed to improving and maintaining the fleet availability of the programs covered by the ZF Luftfahrttechnik product portfolio. Adding ZF Luftfahrttechnik to the portfolio would broaden Airbus Helicopters’ range of MRO capabilities and secure added competencies in the domain of dynamic systems for Airbus Helicopters.

Such expansion of capabilities across the world is expected to contribute to the growth of the global helicopter MRO services market.

In 2021, Erickson Inc. announced that the company had retained Houlihan Lokey, Inc. to explore strategic options to accelerate company growth and maintain its industry leadership position. Erickson’s Manufacturing and MRO services include manufacturing the S-64 Air Crane® helicopter as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) as well as manufacturing key aerospace parts for aerospace OEMs.

In 2022, global helicopter provider, PHI, announced the expansion of its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services. The services would be delivered out of its modern facility in Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as in-field and on-site. The step emphasized the company's focus on diversifying its service offering while delivering additional value to customers.

In 2020, Heli-One, a key provider of helicopter MRO services, developed multiple new H225 modifications for HEMS purpose. The modifications were a modular medical equipment wall and stretcher installation. The modifications would support HEMS teams with enhanced flexibility and efficiency while maintaining patient and crew safety.

In 2019, Heli-One and Caverton Helicopters signed a multi-year maintenance support agreement for a Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter. Heli-One would provide Caverton’s S-76C++ with extensive maintenance support including components (including dynamics), airframe, avionics, rescue equipment, and rotor blades, among others.

In 2022, Honeywell signed two MOUs to strengthen the company’s presence in Malaysia and associations with major stakeholders in the country and region. The cooperation sought to tap into Honeywell’s expertise in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft in various capacities. The company signed separate MOUs with Airod Techno Power (ATP) and Galaxy Aerospace. Honeywell and ATP would work to determine potential opportunities in two major areas - providing licensed MRO activities for Honeywell’s 85-series Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and APU Fuel Control Units (FCUs) for C-130 aircraft platforms run by the Royal Malaysian Air Force in Malaysia, and exploring aftermarket opportunities for Honeywell products and spares provision for standing C-130 aircraft platforms. Cooperation with Galaxy Aerospace would focus on opportunities for its AW139 fleet of helicopters.
