Barn Eggs Prices, Demand and Supply Overview

The United Kingdom paid the most for barn eggs in Q3 2026: USD 4,460/MT, up 0.5% from USD 4,440/MT in Q2. The British market relies mostly on domestic production, with high feed, labor and compliance costs and little import competition, which keeps its prices above the continental markets. Worldwide, the average fell 0.9% to USD 4,022/MT from USD 4,059/MT, mostly because seasonal summer demand softened in continental Europe, which outweighed the continued shortage caused by avian influenza losses. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 3,980-4,305/MT range, with avian influenza risk, autumn and holiday demand and feed costs doing most of the work.

Barn eggs are eggs from laying hens kept indoors in a loose-housing system, where birds move freely on the floor with perches and nest boxes, without cages. The category sits between caged eggs and free-range or organic eggs, and it is the main production method for supermarkets in Germany and a growing share of the market elsewhere. Prices depend on feed costs, flock size, disease losses, housing conversion costs and seasonal demand.

Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland are the largest European producers, while the United Kingdom supplies most of its own eggs. Retailers have moved away from caged eggs, which raised demand for barn production and increased the price premium over caged eggs. Avian influenza outbreaks reduce flocks suddenly, and trade moves quickly between countries, so a loss in one major producer can lift prices across the continent. Egg prices tend to dip in summer holidays and rise ahead of Easter and the year-end.

Barn Eggs Price Forecast for 2026

Prices should rise through the rest of 2026. Summer softness is passing, demand rises ahead of the year-end, and the risk of avian influenza increases during the autumn bird migration. Processors who cut their use of barn eggs because of high prices may rebuild stocks, which would add to demand. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 3,672/MT to USD 4,022/MT, an increase of 9.5%.

The balance of risks for Q4 tilts upward. What could push prices higher? New avian influenza outbreaks in major producing regions, higher feed costs or an early rebuild of stocks by food manufacturers would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Mild disease conditions, faster flock rebuilding or weaker consumer demand would limit the rise or lower prices.

Region 2026 Price Range (USD/MT) Outlook
Global Average 3,980 - 4,305 Seasonal demand and disease risk support firmer prices into year-end
Germany 4,110 - 4,440 Seasonal demand and flock availability set the continental benchmark
France 3,900 - 4,215 Strong export links keep prices close to German levels
Spain 3,505 - 3,790 Lower costs keep prices below northern Europe
United Kingdom 4,415 - 4,770 Domestic supply and high costs keep prices highest

For the Quarter Ending September 2026

Barn Eggs Prices Q3 2026:

  • Germany: USD 4,150/MT
  • France: USD 3,940/MT
  • Spain: USD 3,540/MT
  • United Kingdom: USD 4,460/MT

Barn Eggs Prices in Germany

Germany recorded a 1.8% decline in Q3 2026, with the average falling to USD 4,150/MT from USD 4,225/MT in Q2. German prices eased as summer holidays reduced consumer demand and sufficient supplies were available from all housing systems. Measured against Q3 2025, when the average stood at USD 3,780/MT, the market is 9.8% higher. The four markets averaged USD 4,022/MT in the quarter, so the price in Germany was 3.2% higher.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q3 2026 in Germany?

Germany fell by the most among the four markets. Many federal states had school holidays, consumers spent less on fresh eggs, and packers reported enough supply from all housing systems, which weakened quotations for barn eggs. Across the first three quarters of 2026, Germany has moved up 7.5% from USD 3,860/MT in Q4 2025 to USD 4,150/MT, against a 7.3% gain for the global average.

Barn Eggs Prices in France

The Q3 2026 average for France stood at USD 3,940/MT, a decrease of 1.3% on the USD 3,990/MT recorded in Q2. French prices eased in the same seasonal pattern as the retailers cut orders during the holiday period. In Q3 2025 the average was USD 3,610/MT, so the market is 9.1% higher on a yearly basis. In comparison with the average of USD 4,022/MT across the four markets, the price in France was 2.0% lower.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q3 2026 in France?

France declined in line with Germany. Retail orders slowed during the holiday period, and packing stations lowered offers to move stock, although the market remained far above last year. Year to date, France is 6.8% higher than the Q4 2025 level of USD 3,690/MT, while the global average is 7.3% higher. The global average shifted 0.9% lower in the same quarter.

Barn Eggs Prices in Spain

Spain registered a 1.1% decrease in Q3 2026, taking the average to USD 3,540/MT from USD 3,580/MT in Q2. Spanish prices eased slightly as domestic demand softened during the summer and production recovered after earlier losses. This represents a 9.3% increase on the USD 3,240/MT recorded in Q3 2025. Spain ended the quarter 12.0% below the group average of USD 4,022/MT.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q3 2026 in Spain?

Spain eased by the smallest margin among the continental markets. Summer demand weakened at home, but production was recovering after earlier disease losses, and export demand from northern Europe limited the decline. Over the first nine months of 2026 the price in Spain has risen by 7.3%, which compares with a 7.3% gain in the global average.

Barn Eggs Prices in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom firmed 0.5% to USD 4,460/MT in Q3 2026, from USD 4,440/MT in Q2. British prices edged up as flock rebuilding was slow and retailers kept contract prices firm ahead of the autumn. The year-on-year change is a 9.9% increase, from USD 4,060/MT in Q3 2025. The price in the United Kingdom was 10.9% above the group average of USD 4,022/MT in Q3 2026.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q3 2026 in United Kingdom?

The United Kingdom was the only market to rise. Flock rebuilding was slow, production costs stayed high, and retailers kept contract prices firm ahead of the autumn, so British quotations held up while continental markets softened. Since the end of 2025, the price in the United Kingdom has risen 7.5%, from USD 4,150/MT to USD 4,460/MT, while the global average has risen 7.3%.

Barn Eggs Prices in Germany

Germany firmed 5.1% to USD 4,225/MT in Q2 2026, from USD 4,020/MT in Q1. German prices rose sharply as the demand rose ahead of Easter and the supply of barn eggs stayed tight. Taking Q2 2025 as the base, at USD 3,720/MT, the latest quarter is 13.6% higher. This places Germany 4.1% above the four-market average of USD 4,059/MT for Q2 2026.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q2 2026 in Germany?

Germany recorded the largest rise. Demand strengthened ahead of Easter, the supply of barn eggs was limited after earlier disease losses, and packers had little difficulty in raising prices. After a 4.1% gain in Q1, the quarter closed 13.6% above the USD 3,720/MT recorded in Q2 2025. Part of the move was reversed in Q3, leaving the price at USD 4,150/MT.

Barn Eggs Prices in France

In Q2 2026, the average price in France rose 4.5% to USD 3,990/MT, compared with USD 3,820/MT in Q1. French prices rose as the exporters competed for scarce supply and retailers raised contract prices. Against the USD 3,560/MT recorded in Q2 2025, the current average represents a 12.1% increase. Against the four-market average of USD 4,059/MT, France stood 1.7% below in the quarter.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q2 2026 in France?

France rose strongly. Exporters competed with German packers for scarce supply, and retailers agreed to higher contract prices to secure volumes. This came on top of a 3.5% gain in Q1, and the average ended 12.1% above its level of a year earlier, when it stood at USD 3,560/MT. Q3 reversed some of the change, with the price at USD 3,940/MT.

Barn Eggs Prices in Spain

Spain's average moved up 4.7% in Q2 2026, to USD 3,580/MT from USD 3,420/MT in Q1. Spanish prices rose as exports to northern Europe increased and domestic stocks fell. The Q2 2025 average of USD 3,180/MT puts the current price 12.6% above its level a year earlier. Spain finished Q2 2026 11.8% below the four-market average of USD 4,059/MT.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q2 2026 in Spain?

Spain rose as exports to northern Europe increased and domestic stocks fell. Higher feed costs also supported producers in their price negotiations. Q1 had brought a 3.6% gain, and by the end of Q2 the price was 12.6% above the Q2 2025 average of USD 3,180/MT. The price then partly reversed in Q3, to USD 3,540/MT.

Barn Eggs Prices in United Kingdom

Prices in the United Kingdom firmed 3.7% in Q2 2026 to USD 4,440/MT, compared with USD 4,280/MT in Q1. British prices rose as flock rebuilding was slow and retailers sought to secure supply ahead of the summer. Year on year, the average is 10.4% higher, against USD 4,020/MT in Q2 2025. The four markets averaged USD 4,059/MT in the quarter, so the price in the United Kingdom was 9.4% higher.

Why did the price of Barn Eggs change in Q2 2026 in United Kingdom?

The United Kingdom rose more slowly. Flock rebuilding remained slow, and retailers secured supply ahead of the summer by agreeing higher contract prices with producers. Coming after a 3.1% gain in Q1, the Q2 figure sits 10.4% above the USD 4,020/MT of Q2 2025. The same direction continued in Q3, with the price reaching USD 4,460/MT.
