Belgium paid the most for celeriac in Q3 2026: EUR 66.0/100 kg, up 1.9% from EUR 64.8/100 kg in Q2. Higher storage and labor costs and steady demand from processors and export buyers keep Belgian prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average rose 1.6% to EUR 56.0/100 kg from EUR 55.1/100 kg, mostly because lower yields, tight stocks and stronger demand from retailers and export buyers lifted prices in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the EUR 54.6-59.1/100 kg range, with the autumn harvest, storage costs, labor costs and demand from retailers and soup makers doing most of the work.
Celeriac, also called celery root, is the swollen root of a celery variety grown for its firm, white flesh and mild celery flavor. It is sold fresh to retailers and caterers and used in soups, salads, mashed dishes and ready meals. Prices in this report refer to washed roots at the wholesale level and are quoted per 100 kilograms. They depend on harvest size, storage costs, root size and demand from retailers and processors.
Celeriac is grown mainly in Germany, Poland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, where it is sown in spring and harvested in autumn. Most of the crop goes into cold storage and is sold through the winter, so storage costs and stock levels set prices in the second half of the marketing year. Prices vary by root size, cleanliness and packaging.
Prices should rise modestly through the rest of 2026. Yields from the autumn harvest are lower in several areas, stocks are tight and storage costs remain high. Larger plantings in Poland limit the size of the increase. A year ago the global average was EUR 53.5/100 kg, and the latest quarter, at EUR 56.0/100 kg, is 4.7% higher.
For Q4, risks to the price are evenly spread. What could push prices higher? Smaller harvests, higher storage costs or stronger demand from export buyers would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Larger harvests, weaker demand from retailers or lower storage costs would lower prices.
