Turkey paid the most for cotton yarn in Q3 2026: USD 3.80/KG, down 0.8% from USD 3.83/KG in Q2. High energy and labor costs and steady demand from textile and home furnishing makers keep Turkish prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.2% to USD 3.30/KG from USD 3.34/KG, mostly because lower cotton prices and weaker orders from garment makers led spinners and mills to lower prices in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 3.15-3.42/KG range, with cotton prices, energy costs, orders from garment makers and demand from home textile makers doing most of the work.
Cotton yarn is the thread spun from raw cotton fibers and used to weave and knit fabrics. It is sold in counts that describe thickness, with carded and combed grades for different uses. Prices in this report refer to 30 count carded cotton yarn and are quoted per kilogram. They depend on raw cotton prices, energy costs and orders from fabric and garment makers.
China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam and Turkey spin most of the world supply, and the yarn goes to local weavers or is exported to Bangladesh and other garment makers. Spinning needs steady power and a large supply of cotton, so mills are often located near cotton regions. Prices vary with yarn count, quality and the type of cotton used.
Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Cotton prices have eased and mills hold large stocks, but steady orders from garment makers before the holiday season limit the size of the decline. Against USD 3.25/KG in Q3 2025, the current global average of USD 3.30/KG represents an increase of 1.5%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward lower prices. What could push prices higher? Higher cotton prices, higher power costs or stronger orders from garment makers would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Lower cotton prices, larger mill stocks or weaker garment orders would lower prices.
