Germany paid the most for dogfish in Q3 2026: USD 6.40/KG, down 0.9% from USD 6.46/KG in Q2. Import needs, higher handling costs and steady demand from smokehouses and fish processors keep German prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.2% to USD 4.85/KG from USD 4.91/KG, mostly because larger landings in North America and softer export demand led processors and importers to lower prices in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 4.63-5.02/KG range, with landings and quotas, fuel costs, demand from smokehouses and fish and chip shops and export shipments from North America doing most of the work.
Dogfish, mostly spiny dogfish, is a small shark caught with nets and lines in the North Atlantic and North Pacific. It is sold as dressed fish, skinless fillets and belly flaps, and it is eaten battered in British fish and chip shops and smoked in Germany. Prices in this report refer to chilled dressed dogfish at wholesale level and are quoted per kilogram. They depend on landings, fuel costs and demand from smokehouses and food service buyers.
Most of the catch comes from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, and most of the exports go to Germany, France and Italy. Catches are limited by quotas that are set each year, so landings change little between seasons. Boats land the fish chilled, plants dress and pack it, and exporters ship it by road and by air. Buyers look at size, freshness and skin quality.
Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Landings are larger and export orders are slower, but steady demand from smokehouses and the chip shop trade limits the size of the decline. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 4.78/KG to USD 4.85/KG, an increase of 1.5%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward lower prices. What could push prices higher? Lower landings, higher fuel costs or stronger orders from German smokehouses would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Larger landings, weaker export demand or lower orders from food service buyers would lower prices.
| Region | 2026 Price Range (USD/KG) | Outlook |

| United States | 3.92 - 4.24 | Export demand supports prices |
| United Kingdom | 5.06 - 5.49 | Steady demand from the chip shop trade supports prices |
| Germany | 6.11 - 6.62 | Import needs and demand from smokehouses keep prices highest |
