Elstar Apples Prices, Demand and Supply Overview

Germany paid the most for Elstar apples in Q3 2026: USD 1.08/KG, up 16.1% from USD 0.93/KG in Q2. Prices there carry the added cost of packing and storage for a premium regional variety. Worldwide, the average rose 16.7% to USD 0.91/KG from USD 0.78/KG, mostly because the 2026 crop was much smaller than the year before. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 0.90-0.99/KG range, with crop size, storage stocks and retail demand doing most of the work.

Elstar is a sweet-tart dessert apple of Dutch origin, picked in September and held in controlled-atmosphere storage for sale through the following spring. It is eaten fresh, packed for supermarkets and used in juice and baking. This report tracks wholesale packhouse prices for Class I fruit, quoted per kilogram, in the main growing and trading countries of northern Europe. Prices follow the size and quality of each harvest, the length of storage, and the volumes competing varieties and imports take at the shelf.

The Netherlands is the heart of Elstar supply, with Belgium, Germany and Poland growing meaningful volumes. The 2026 Dutch crop is estimated near 77 million kilograms, about a fifth below the 2025 harvest, and total Dutch apple output is also lower. A large 2025 crop kept prices weak for most of that season. Trade reports from late September describe 2026 prices as firm and better than a year earlier, as packers work through a smaller crop and shoppers keep buying a familiar variety.

Elstar Apples Price Forecast for 2026

Prices should rise through the rest of 2026. A smaller crop and steady shop demand keep fruit scarce. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 0.66/KG to USD 0.91/KG, an increase of 37.9%.

For Q4, the risks are weighted toward higher prices. What could push prices higher? A smaller harvest, frost or hail losses or strong export demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? A larger crop in Poland, weak shop demand or cheaper competing varieties would lower prices.

Region 2026 Price Range (USD/KG) Outlook
Global Average 0.90 - 0.99 Smaller crop supports prices
Netherlands 0.91 - 1.01 A smaller crop supports growers
Germany 1.06 - 1.18 Short Dutch supply lifts import costs
Belgium 0.94 - 1.04 Regional supply stays limited
Poland 0.67 - 0.75 Export demand lifts local prices
