The United States paid the most for erythritol in Q3 2026: USD 3,180/MT, down 0.6% from USD 3,200/MT in Q2. Prices there include freight, duties and the cost of holding stock. Worldwide, the average rose 0.5% to USD 2,158/MT from USD 2,148/MT, mostly because Chinese offers firmed and European food makers renewed contracts. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 2,048-2,263/MT range, with glucose costs, fermentation capacity and sugar-free demand doing most of the work.
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol made by fermenting glucose, and it provides sweetness with almost no calories. It is used in sugar-free drinks, confectionery, baked goods, tabletop sweeteners and dietary supplements. This report tracks the bulk price of food-grade erythritol, quoted per tonne, in the main producing and importing markets. Prices follow the cost of corn-based glucose, fermentation capacity, the share of sugar-free products in food launches, and the cost of freight and duties on trade flows.
China makes most of the world's erythritol, and its export prices set the floor for the other markets. Producers in Europe and the United States serve a smaller share of local demand. Chinese list prices for standard grade have held near CNY 10,000 per tonne through much of 2026, while delivered prices in the United States and Germany sit well above that level once freight, duties and handling are added.
Prices should hold close to current levels. Steady food demand and firm Chinese offers support prices. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 2,130/MT to USD 2,158/MT, an increase of 1.3%.
For Q4, the risks are balanced. What could push prices higher? Higher corn costs, faster sugar-free product launches or plant outages would lift prices. What could pull them lower? New capacity, weak beverage demand or lower freight rates would lower prices.
