Polyvinyl acetate is a thermoplastic made by polymerising vinyl acetate monomer, sold mainly as a water-based emulsion for white and wood glue and as a resin. It is used in adhesives, emulsion paints, paper and packaging, construction chemicals and textiles, and feeds polyvinyl alcohol and PVB. Celanese, Dow, Wacker, Synthomer, Sinopec, Sekisui and Kuraray are key producers.
Prices swung in 2026. Celanese announced Western Hemisphere price increases in February 2026, US monomer rose 3.8 percent in late March and 11.73 percent in early May, then China FOB fell 29 percent and India CIF 27 percent in June as logistics stabilised.
Vinyl acetate monomer, the main proxy, was USD 1,190 per tonne CFR China, USD 1,014 CFR India, USD 979 CFR Indonesia, USD 1,304 CIF Germany and USD 1,346 CIF US in July, with acetic acid in August at USD 466 FOB China, USD 560 US and USD 579 Germany. The price outlook is shaped by four key drivers.
Supplier news: Celanese reported in August 2026 that second quarter Acetyl Chain sales rose 28 percent sequentially to USD 1.33 billion, with price up 22 percent and volume up 6 percent, and that its Frankfurt vinyl acetate monomer unit restarted rapidly during the quarter. Synthomer said in August 2026 that reliability issues at its Texas and Netherlands sites constrained Adhesive Solutions output, with resolution expected in the third quarter. INEOS announced in September 2026 that it is idling its three Hull acetyls plants because of European gas costs, tightening acetic acid supply. Short term, easing ethylene points lower while the Hull idling supports European acetic acid. Long term, a Hormuz or freight shock is the main upside risk.
Expect steady gains across all four markets through H2 2026 as construction and furniture manufacturing demand continues its gradual recovery. China should retain its cost advantage given its scale of production capacity. Germany's premium should persist given its concentrated specialty adhesive and coatings manufacturing base. Vinyl acetate monomer feedstock cost trends remain the key variable to watch, given PVAc's direct dependence on that single input.
Across all 4 regions combined, prices moved 4.0% increase on average between Q1 and Q2 2026. Absent a meaningful change to the cost or demand drivers outlined above, that pace looks set to carry into the second half of the year.

Expert Market Research: Your Source for Real-Time Polyvinyl Acetate Price Intelligence
We keep a continuous watch on polyvinyl acetate prices across every region that produces or consumes it at scale, tracing the raw material and demand drivers back to their source rather than just reporting the number. Our team pulls together vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) cost trends, regional supply and demand shifts, and policy developments into a single, regularly refreshed view of the market.
We build our forecasts from production capacity, feedstock cost trends, and regional demand data, aiming to give procurement teams something they can actually use in budgeting and supplier negotiations, not just a headline number.
If you need a deeper regional breakdown, a longer historical run than the six quarters shown here, or a sourcing analysis built around your specific procurement footprint, our analysts are available to help.
We track emulsion and homopolymer resin grade pricing separately, since direct adhesive users and further chemical processors represent genuinely distinct buyer segments.

Polyvinyl acetate, PVAc, is polymerised from vinyl acetate monomer into the resin base for wood glue, water-based construction adhesives, and paint and coating binders, most commonly sold as a water-based emulsion rather than a dry solid resin.
In Q2 2026, it averaged USD 1,080/MT in China, USD 1,340/MT in United States, USD 1,440/MT in Germany, USD 1,165/MT in India, with Germany the priciest of the 4 markets tracked in this report.
The global average moved from USD 1,191/MT in Q4 2025 to USD 1,208 in Q1 2026, then to USD 1,256 by Q2, a 5.5% increase across the two quarters.
Ample production capacity met firming feedstock costs, with similar dynamics playing out across the other regions this report tracks, each shaped by its own local mix of supply and demand.
Expect steady gains across all four markets through H2 2026 as construction and furniture manufacturing demand continues its gradual recovery.
Germany commands the highest price of the 4 markets in this report, while China runs the most affordable. Local production economics, import exposure, and demand strength drive most of that gap, and the ranking is not fixed from quarter to quarter.
Vinyl acetate monomer feedstock costs, the sole monomer input into production; Wood glue and construction adhesive demand, the largest established end use; Paper and textile sizing demand, a substantial secondary market, along with broader macroeconomic conditions across the 4 regions this report tracks.
China's scale of VAM and downstream PVAc production capacity keeps it the most competitively priced of the four markets, while Germany's concentrated specialty adhesive and coatings manufacturing base keeps it the priciest.
Beyond its direct use as wood glue and construction adhesive, homopolymer resin grade PVAc serves as the precursor for polyvinyl alcohol, made by hydrolysing the acetate groups off the polymer backbone. Polyvinyl alcohol itself feeds a range of further applications including textile sizing, paper coating, and water-soluble packaging film.
Monthly, though our analysts flag any material shift in feedstock costs or regional demand as soon as it emerges.
