Aminobenzene Pricing, Demand and Supply Overview

Germany paid the most for aminobenzene in Q2 2026: USD 1,426/MT, up 1.9% from USD 1,399 in Q1. The tight benzene supply didn't help, and the steady MDI demand added its own pull. Worldwide, the average moved up 1.9%, to USD 1,293/MT from USD 1,269, largely because the polyurethane demand kept climbing across every region we track. What about H2 2026? We'd expect a global average somewhere in the USD 1,280-1,385/MT range, with the MDI and rubber-chemical demand doing most of the work.

Most chemists just call it aniline. It's made by reducing nitrobenzene with hydrogen over a catalyst, itself derived from benzene through nitration. Its overwhelming job is feedstock for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, or MDI, the building block of rigid and flexible polyurethane foams used everywhere from insulation panels to car seats. Rubber-processing chemicals and dye intermediates pick up a smaller slice. Three things move the price more than anything else: the benzene feedstock costs, the MDI and polyurethane-sector demand, and how much capacity the producers are running.

The tie between aniline and the broader construction and automotive cycles is worth keeping in mind, since it's ultimately what drives most of the demand-side movement in this market. Rigid polyurethane foam insulation tracks building activity fairly closely, while the flexible foam used in car seats and furniture tracks vehicle production and consumer furniture spending. Because MDI producers tend to run their plants at high utilization regardless of the near-term demand picture, the aniline market often reacts faster to shifts in benzene feedstock costs than it does to changes in end-use demand, at least over a single quarter. Over longer stretches, though, the construction and automotive cycles clearly dominate.

It's also worth noting that aniline production is fairly concentrated among a handful of large integrated producers in each region, most of whom also make the downstream MDI themselves. That vertical integration means a lot of aniline never actually trades on the open market at all, since it moves directly from one part of a single company's operations to another. The prices we track here reflect the merchant market, the portion that does trade between separate buyers and sellers, which tends to be more sensitive to short-term feedstock swings than the internally consumed volumes would be.

Aminobenzene Price Forecast for 2026

Supply and demand should stay moderately tight through H2 2026, with the MDI producers keeping the operating rates high to meet the construction and automotive-foam demand. Germany and the US both kept the demand climbing through H1, and that's likely to continue. India's rubber-chemical sector kept the import demand building, while China's large domestic production base kept it the most affordable of the four.

The benzene market itself bears watching too, since it's the single biggest input cost for this product. Refinery output of benzene tends to track gasoline-blending economics as much as it tracks dedicated petrochemical demand, which means aniline producers sometimes face feedstock swings that have little to do with anything happening in the polyurethane market. That disconnect is part of why the aniline price doesn't always move in lockstep with construction or automotive activity, even though those two sectors ultimately determine most of the underlying demand.

What could push prices higher? A benzene feedstock spike, or a stronger-than-expected MDI-sector rebound. What could pull them lower? A slowdown in construction-linked polyurethane demand, or an unexpected easing in benzene refinery output.

Key Questions Answered in the Report

Its overwhelming job is feedstock for MDI, the building block of rigid and flexible polyurethane foams. Rubber-processing chemicals and dye intermediates pick up a smaller slice.

In Q2 2026, it averaged USD 1,133/MT in China, USD 1,347/MT in the US, USD 1,426/MT in Germany, and USD 1,273/MT in India, still the priciest market thanks to the established MDI-sector demand.

The global average climbed from USD 1,246/MT in Q4 2025 to USD 1,269 in Q1 2026, then on to USD 1,293 in Q2, up 3.8% across the half.

The benzene feedstock costs firmed across every region, while the MDI and polyurethane-sector demand held steady to strong.

We're expecting a global average somewhere in the USD 1,280-1,385/MT range, supported by the dependable MDI and rubber-chemical demand.

Germany sits at the top on the established MDI-sector demand. The US and India occupy a firm middle. China prices lowest on its large domestic production base.

The benzene feedstock costs matter most, followed by the MDI-sector demand and the rubber-chemical demand tied to industrial activity. Benzene supply itself can be surprisingly volatile, since refiners balance it against gasoline-blending economics.

China holds the largest production base, while Germany, the US, and India host established producers serving their own regional MDI and rubber industries.

Monthly, though our analysts flag any material shift in feedstock or logistics conditions between scheduled updates. Need something more current? Our team is available directly.

The quarterly trends and forecasts help time MDI-linked purchasing around the benzene feedstock cycles. Tracking the construction and automotive-foam demand can help buyers anticipate shifts before they hit the spot prices. Building that habit into a quarterly procurement review tends to pay off more than reacting to price moves after they have already happened.
