The United States paid the most for ester gum in Q3 2026: USD 4,060/MT, up 1.5% from USD 4,000/MT in Q2. Prices there include imports of food-grade resin and higher freight costs. Worldwide, the average rose 2.9% to USD 2,948/MT from USD 2,864/MT, mostly because rosin and freight costs climbed and demand held up. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 2,845-3,144/MT range, with gum rosin costs, glycerol prices and packaging demand doing most of the work.
Ester gum is a resin made by reacting gum rosin with glycerol. It is used as a weighting agent in citrus soft drinks, in chewing gum bases, in adhesives, inks and paints, and as a tackifier in hot-melt products. This report tracks the bulk price of ester gum, quoted per tonne, in the main producing and consuming markets. Prices follow the cost of gum rosin and glycerol, energy, freight, and demand from the drinks, packaging and coatings industries.
China and India are the main producers, with Indonesia, Europe and the United States making smaller volumes. Gum rosin from China and Indonesia is the main raw material, and its price rose in the first half of 2026, with the global average reaching about USD 1,529 per tonne in June. In India, domestic prices reached about INR 220 per kilogram in July, while monsoon humidity and delays at Mumbai port slowed supply of finished resin.
Prices should rise through the rest of 2026. Firm rosin costs and healthy packaging demand support prices. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 2,695/MT to USD 2,948/MT, an increase of 9.4%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward higher prices. What could push prices higher? Higher rosin costs, port delays or stronger drink demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Cheaper rosin, weak paint demand or lower freight rates would lower prices.
