Australia paid the most for eucalyptus oil in Q3 2026: USD 30.00/KG, up 1.7% from USD 29.50/KG in Q2. Prices there include premium pharma grades and strict quality checks. Worldwide, the average rose 1.8% to USD 22.32/KG from USD 21.93/KG, mostly because leaf costs rose and pharma and home care buyers kept restocking. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 21.53-23.79/KG range, with leaf supply, rainfall and pharma demand doing most of the work.
Eucalyptus oil is a pale essential oil steam-distilled from the leaves of eucalyptus trees, with the best-selling grade containing 80 to 85 percent cineole. It is used in cough and cold remedies, aromatherapy, cleaning products, insect repellents and flavours. This report covers eucalyptus oil rather than woodchips or logs, with prices quoted per kilogram for bulk 80 to 85 percent cineole oil in the main producing and importing markets. Prices follow leaf supply, rainfall, distillation costs and demand from pharma and home care users.
China, India and Australia are the major sources, with smaller volumes from Spain, Portugal and South Africa. Indian bulk offers for 80 to 85 percent oil were between INR 1,450 and INR 1,600 per kilogram, which works out at about 17 to 18 dollars a kilogram, while Australian pharma-grade oil carries a clear premium for consistent cineole content. Leaf supply depends on rainfall and on how many farmers cut trees for timber rather than for oil.
Prices should rise through the rest of 2026. Higher leaf costs and steady remedy demand support prices. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 20.90/KG to USD 22.32/KG, an increase of 6.8%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward higher prices. What could push prices higher? Poor rainfall, higher leaf costs or stronger cold remedy demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? A bumper leaf harvest, weak home care demand or cheaper Chinese offers would lower prices.
