Spain paid the most for European seabass in Q3 2026: USD 9.30/KG, up 1.1% from USD 9.20/KG in Q2. Prices there reflect steady demand and reliance on imported fish. Worldwide, the average rose 1.3% to USD 8.43/KG from USD 8.32/KG, mostly because farm output stayed limited and feed costs remained high. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 8.12-8.98/KG range, with farmed output, feed costs and southern European demand doing most of the work.
European seabass is a silvery marine fish farmed in cages along the Mediterranean coast. It is sold fresh and whole at around 400 to 600 grams, which is the plate-size fish favoured in restaurants and supermarkets, and also as fillets. This report tracks the ex-farm and wholesale price of fresh farmed seabass, quoted per kilogram, in the main producing and consuming countries. Prices follow farmed output, feed and labour costs, seasonal sea temperatures and demand in southern Europe.
Greece and Turkey farm most of the supply, with Spain, Italy and Croatia adding smaller volumes. Farming costs have risen through feed, energy and labour, while output has been limited by sea temperatures and by tighter licensing for new cages. Export unit prices from Greece were about 7.86 dollars a kilogram in 2025, with fish sent to Italy fetching closer to 8.71, and Turkish prices rose as well.
Prices should rise through the rest of 2026. Limited farm output and high feed costs support prices. Year on year, the global average has moved from USD 8.00/KG to USD 8.43/KG, an increase of 5.4%.
For Q4, the risks are weighted toward higher prices. What could push prices higher? Higher feed costs, hot summers that cut growth or stronger restaurant demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Larger harvests, cheaper Turkish exports or weak consumer spending would lower prices.
