Feta Cheese Prices, Demand and Supply Overview

The United States paid the most for feta cheese in Q3 2026: USD 6,900/MT, up 1.4% from USD 6,805/MT in Q2. Import costs, freight charges and steady demand from food service and retailers keep American prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average rose 1.3% to USD 5,825/MT from USD 5,748/MT, mostly because higher milk costs and firm demand from retailers and food service led dairies and importers to raise prices in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 5,680-6,145/MT range, with sheep, goat and cow milk prices, tourism demand in Greece, demand from retailers and food service and freight costs doing most of the work.

Feta is a white, brined cheese made from sheep milk or a mix of sheep and goat milk, with a tangy, salty taste. It is crumbled in salads, baked in pastries and eaten with bread, and it is sold in blocks in brine. Prices in this report refer to feta in blocks and tins for retail and food service and are quoted per metric ton. They depend on milk prices, tourism and demand from retailers and food service.

Greece makes the protected origin product from sheep and goat milk, and other countries make feta-style cheese from cow milk. Dairies curdle the milk, cut and drain the curd, salt it and ripen it in brine for at least two months. Sheep milk supply is seasonal, so output peaks in the spring and summer. Greece, Bulgaria, Denmark and Germany are large exporters, and the United States is a large importer.

Feta Cheese Price Forecast for 2026

Prices should rise modestly through the rest of 2026. Milk costs are firm and demand from retailers and food service is steady. Lower priced cow milk feta limits the size of the increase. For reference, the Q3 2026 global average of USD 5,825/MT compares with USD 5,586/MT a year earlier, an increase of 4.3%.

Risks to the Q4 outlook lean in both directions, with no clear bias. What could push prices higher? Lower sheep milk output, higher milk prices or strong tourism demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Higher milk output, lower milk prices or weaker demand from food service would lower prices.

Region 2026 Price Range (USD/MT) Outlook

Greece 5,950 - 6,435 Protected origin and sheep milk supply support prices
United States 6,730 - 7,280 Import costs and strong demand keep prices highest
