Egypt paid the most for field beans in Q3 2026: USD 520/MT, down 1.0% from USD 525/MT in Q2. Import costs, currency costs and steady demand from food makers keep Egyptian prices above the other three markets. Worldwide, the average fell 1.3% to USD 450/MT from USD 456/MT, mostly because larger harvests and softer demand from feed makers led growers and importers to lower prices in all four markets. What about Q4 2026? We expect a global average somewhere in the USD 430-465/MT range, with harvest results, demand from feed and food makers, freight costs and import demand in Egypt doing most of the work.
Field bean, also called faba bean or broad bean, is a legume grown for its seeds, which are high in protein. The dried beans are eaten as food in the Middle East and North Africa, fed to pigs and poultry and processed into protein ingredients. Prices in this report refer to dried field beans for feed and food in bulk and are quoted per metric ton. They depend on harvest size and demand from food and feed makers.
France, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ethiopia and China are large producers. Farmers sow winter or spring varieties, harvest dry beans and sell to merchants and feed mills. Egypt is a large importer for food use, and Europe uses beans in feed. Yields vary with the weather, so supply and prices change from year to year.
Prices should ease slightly through the rest of 2026. Harvests are larger and demand from feed makers is softer, but steady import demand in Egypt limits the size of the decline. Against USD 444/MT in Q3 2025, the current global average of USD 450/MT represents an increase of 1.4%.
The balance of risks for Q4 tilts downward. What could push prices higher? Poor yields, higher soybean meal prices or stronger import demand would lift prices. What could pull them lower? Larger harvests, lower soybean meal prices or weaker import demand would lower prices.
