Potassium Clavulanate Prices, Demand and Supply Overview

Potassium clavulanate experienced a soft year in 2025, and the United States, the most expensive market on our panel, illustrated the pattern plainly. American material opened the year near USD 90,000/MT and eased to about USD 85,000/MT by December, a decline of roughly 5.6%. Oversupply from India and China accounted for most of the fall. The global average slid in step, moving from USD 74,000/MT in the first quarter of 2025 to USD 70,000/MT by the fourth, before steadying and turning higher. It firmed to about USD 70,500/MT in the first quarter of 2026 and continued to USD 72,000/MT in the second, as restocking and the winter prescribing season brought buyers back into the market.

Potassium clavulanate is the potassium salt of clavulanic acid, an off-white crystalline powder that inhibits bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes. It has little antibacterial effect on its own, but when combined with amoxicillin it restores that antibiotic's activity against resistant organisms, and this pairing accounts for nearly all of its use. Clavulanic acid is produced by fermenting Streptomyces clavuligerus on glycerol and sugar-based feedstock, after which it is converted to the potassium salt in a demanding and low-yield process. China and India dominate global output, led by producers such as Shandong and Sichuan alongside the major Indian formulators. On price, the principal variables are fermentation feedstock and caustic potash costs, Chinese and Indian capacity, export licensing, and the seasonal swing in antibiotic prescriptions.

Potassium Clavulanate Price Forecast for 2026

The balance of supply and demand through the second half of 2026 favours a modest recovery. The oversupply that weighed on the market in 2025 has largely cleared, now that Chinese and Indian producers have steadied their output, and restocking together with the winter prescribing season has drawn buyers back. Fermentation feedstock costs have held firm rather than falling, lending support to the production floor. Taken together, these conditions point to a market recovering gradually from the lows of the previous year rather than one advancing sharply.

The risks around this view run in both directions. On the upside, tighter Indian export licensing, or a fermentation setback at a major Chinese facility, would tighten supply quickly. On the downside, a renewed period of oversupply, or aggressive discounting to defend market share, would stall the recovery and cap offers. For the present, the recovery case holds the advantage, though the margin is not large.

Germany 85,000 - 93,000 Energy and compliance hold the premium
India 64,000 - 71,000 Export capacity holds a firm middle

What was Potassium Clavulanate Price in 2025?

Potassium clavulanate prices declined through most of 2025 as Chinese and Indian oversupply pressed on the market. The global average opened the year near USD 74,000/MT and closed around USD 70,000/MT by the fourth quarter, a full-year decline of about 5.4%. Ample fermentation capacity and competitive discounting set the tone for the year, and the floor formed only in the closing months, immediately ahead of the 2026 recovery.

Potassium Clavulanate Prices in United States in 2025

US prices eased from about USD 90,000/MT early in 2025 to USD 85,000/MT by the fourth quarter, a decline of roughly 5.6%. Abundant Chinese and Indian material kept importers cautious and offers soft through the year. The decisive variable was the depth of discounting that exporters were prepared to offer to hold market share.

Potassium Clavulanate Prices in China in 2025

China recorded a fall from around USD 66,500/MT to USD 62,000/MT, a decline of about 6.8%. Fermentation capacity ran ahead of orders, and exporters trimmed offers to keep product moving, with oversupply meeting steady demand as the defining dynamic.

Potassium Clavulanate Prices in Germany in 2025

Germany eased from roughly USD 91,000/MT to USD 86,000/MT, a decline of close to 5.5%. Cheaper Asian material weighed on European pricing, though high energy costs kept the decline shallow. Import competition against an elevated cost base framed the market through the year.

Potassium Clavulanate Prices in India in 2025

India moved lower from about USD 69,500/MT to USD 65,000/MT, a fall of 6.5%. Ample capacity and competitive export pricing pressed on the market across the year, with export licensing providing only partial support against the trend.

It is a beta-lactamase inhibitor used almost entirely in fixed-dose combination with amoxicillin, where it protects the antibiotic from bacterial enzymes and restores its effect against resistant infections. On its own, it has little antibacterial activity.

In the second quarter of 2026, the average stood at USD 86,000/MT in the United States, USD 63,000/MT in China, USD 87,000/MT in Germany, and USD 66,000/MT in India. Germany and the United States occupy the upper end on energy, compliance, and import costs.

Prices declined through the year. The global average slipped from about USD 74,000/MT early in 2025 to USD 70,000/MT by the fourth quarter, a fall of close to 5.4%, on Chinese and Indian oversupply.

Oversupply was the principal cause. Chinese and Indian fermentation capacity ran ahead of demand, and exporters discounted to hold market share, drawing prices lower through the year.

The market is expected to recover modestly, with the global average likely within the USD 70,000 to 78,000/MT range through the remainder of the year, supported by recovering demand and firm feedstock costs.

Germany and the United States lead on energy, compliance, and import costs. India holds the middle on export economics, while China remains the most affordable on its fermentation scale.

The principal drivers are fermentation feedstock and caustic potash costs, Chinese and Indian capacity, and export licensing. The seasonal pull of antibiotic prescriptions and freight rates on Asian routes can move prices over shorter horizons.

China and India account for the great majority of output, with substantial fermentation and formulation facilities in both. A shift in their capacity or export policy typically reaches the wider market within one or two quarters.

Buyers can align contracts with Chinese and Indian output and licensing cycles, weigh fixed pricing against index-linked supply, and secure cover before the prescribing season firms demand. The earliest signal of direction generally appears in Chinese and Indian export offers.
