Middle East and Africa Animal Feed Market Outlook - Forecast Trends, Market Size, Share and Growth Analysis Report (2025-2034)

High poultry consumption drives the animal feed market in the region. According to the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the overall meat consumption in Africa is expected to grow by 30% between 2021 and 2030 owing to high population growth. Similarly, in UAE, meat consumption was forecasted to grow to 456,000 metric tonnes due to the rise and recovery of the travel and tourism sector. To meet the growing consumption needs, the FAO further projected a strong rise in beef meat production (15%) and sheep meat production by the end of 2030. The growing consumption as well as production of poultry meat in the region is expected to propel the animal feed market growth in the Middle East and Africa region.

The Middle East and Africa region, particularly North Africa, is one of the highest exporters of poultry meat in the world. According to the World Bank, the region accounted for a 1.95% share of the total poultry meat exports globally in 2022, exceeding the absolute value of USD 3 billion. However, this was the second-highest export value, following the poultry exports by the Sub-Saharan African region, which accounted for over 2% of the global share. As the poultry meat exports by the Middle East, Sub-Saharan, and North African regions grow in the coming years, owing to the rise in global trade, the impact of globalisation on food consumption patterns, and the development of a robust shipping infrastructure market, the animal feed industry is expected to witness a surge in its revenue growth.

Growing concerns over the rising greenhouse gas emissions emerging from the poultry sector are encouraging poultry farmers to shift to sustainably produced animal feed with eco-friendly ingredients. These are not only healthy for animals due to their natural origins but are also cost-effective for farmers and help the government achieve its environmental targets and objectives. As a result, key market players are investing heavily in their development, research and production eyeing future growth. For instance, scientists in Africa published research which highlighted the benefits of using Napier grass, widely grown in the region, as animal fodder or fodder ingredient. They concluded that when combined with silage made from locally grown maize, Napier grass can serve as one of the most nutritional diets for cows and other poultry animals in the region.  Such research efforts open new market opportunities for animal feed consumers and producers alike.

Public-private partnerships are becoming a major trend in the animal feed market, serving as an effective source of funding or investment for industry leaders. Their investment or grants are enabling a wholesome growth of the sector, from research to production. Several such partnerships have developed in the Middle East and Africa region during the recent part. For instance, the Partnership for Resilient and Inclusive Small Stock Market project in Africa was operational until June 2024 and was executed with a budget of EUR 15.5 million. The project was aimed at reforming the pork, poultry and animal feed value chains by facilitating private sector investment, competitiveness resilience to climate change, and capacity enhancement of farmers across 10 districts in Rwanda. However, the implementation of the project was done by key public institutions such as the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board as well as the National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA). Such programmes lead to the investment-led growth of the animal feed market.
