There is an increased preference among consumers in India for systems that would provide savings in terms of energy consumption due to rising prices. This has led to a demand for more efficient systems using invertors. Industry trends have only served to consolidate this trend. As per a report published by Economic Times, in June 2024, India recorded an all-time high in AC sales amid summer season, owing to the early arrival of the heatwave and high demand in urban as well as semi-urban locations. Industry associations predicted that the sales of ACs would touch an all-time high on account of continuous consumer demand and extreme temperatures.

However, there are still a number of obstacles affecting the use of residential air conditioners. Firstly, high initial prices discourage low-income individuals from purchasing such devices. Moreover, increased electricity charges affect the overall cost-effectiveness after prolonged utilization. Another issue is poor insulation and inadequate infrastructure in older houses of India.

In spite of all the aforementioned hurdles, the future prospects of residential air conditioning in India are expected to be highly promising. Urbanization, volatile climate, and increased affordability levels are predicted to drive demand.
